A cyclist who was struck by a car suffered "life-threatening" head injuries, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the man, aged in his 40s, was riding along Hyde Road in Gorton, near the junction with Gatrix Street, at 17:15 BST on Sunday when he was hit by a grey Volkswagen Tiguan.

Its driver, a man in his 30s, stayed at the scene to help officers with their enquiries, said a GMP spokesman, who added that no arrests had been made.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, is urged to contact the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
